This route highlights one of the most atmospheric sections of the Nakasendo, beginning with the historic stone-paved path in Ochiai.
The trail moves through shaded forest, moss-covered stones and quiet slopes before connecting to the well-known Magome–Tsumago section. Compared to starting directly in Magome, this route feels more gradual and immersive, with fewer people in the early stages.
It’s a strong option for those who want a slightly deeper and less crowded introduction to the Nakasendo, while still experiencing its most scenic and historically rich segments.
